“Skateparks encourage youth to develop healthy, active lifestyles.”
The Cincinnati Skatepark Project is the effort of the local Cincinnati skateboarding community to build safe, sustainable, and inclusive public skateparks around the city.
Skateboarding is a very communal sport and activity; it’s always bigger than just one skater. This type of community is where you find lifelong friends and family. With this branding project, I aimed to illustrate not only an icon that visualized the cyclical flow of the skateboarding community, but also was reminiscent of a skateboard wheel, eagles eye view of a skatepark, and subtly included the acronym CSP.
What makes up an icon?
Within the Cincinnati Skatepark Project logo hides many familiar forms that help make up the whole, similar to the world of skateboarding, having many moving pieces that come together. The intention with this design was to make a logo that was all things skateboarding - from the reminiscent shape of wheels, bowls, pools, rails, and a snake run - but simultaneously being clean, elegant, and unique. It’s weaving, and overally mobius strip-esque form is intended to reflect the timelessness of skateboarding and how important creative communities such as it is to a city, and to the world.
“When we started the Cincinnati Skatepark Project, one of the first things we needed was solid branding design that would be embraced by boarders and in board rooms as we embarked on a mission to advocate for safe, sustainable, and inclusive public skateparks. It wasn’t an easy task, but Zach came highly recommended and understood my direction to develop designs that are simple and stylish, inspired by skateboarding, but polished and professional. He delivered such a cool and clever design package that immediately elevated our efforts. Cut to four years later and we’ve got Cincinnati’s first million dollar custom concrete skatepark under construction. We’ve received so many compliments on the logo and designs along the way, and I can’t recommend Zach enough.”
